My Process

From initial sketch, to carving the blocks, and pressing the ink on the paper, every step is done by hand. I use sustainable, high-quality materials to create colorful prints that will remain bright through the years. I have a deep love of color and find that my work as a printer revolves more around color than line. You won’t find many single color prints in my collections!

What is a print?

Block prints are handmade, original works created by carving away parts of a material, inking the remaining surface, and pressing paper onto the inked surface either by hand or a press. This results in a mirror image of the carved design.

Original prints have rich, vibrant inks, luxurious papers, are signed by the artist, and often printed as limited editions.

Reproductions (aka prints - confusing, I know) are a more budget friendly option where the image is digitally printed onto acid free paper with light-fast inks. This allows for the continued printing of a popular design even after the block has worn down or it’s from a limited edition. I currently offer reproductions of originals as greeting cards on my website, and as prints for my military art customers in Etsy shop: MilitaryArtByAlicia.

“Watching [a print] being made is a huge part of the enjoyment for me. The coordination and forethought required to bring Alicia's visions to fruition is just amazing to me.”
